Hi - so, if there is a character build workshop section on the site, please feel free to redirect me and I can post this there.

For next build I wanted to do a dude called "The Hulkynd." This is an Altmer role build, pulled from content in the upcoming Summerset chapter of ESO. Since the quest content in the test server is still under NDA, I'll just say the Hulkynd is an Altmer outcast and leave the rest of the roleplay and backstory for later.

The build will be similar to a wood elf in high elf clothing. Archery, Alchemy, 1H, Light Armor. For magic, I'll go against Altmer type and focus on Alteration and Restoration.

Here's the thing: for gameplay, I want a dude that feels like the opposite of someone brought up in the Sapiarch-run academies. SO I want to build around infinite magicka AND stamina glitches. Infinite wards, channeled heals, power attacks, sprinting, archery zooming. BUT, no fancy spells. The idea is he is is very low on educated talents and very high on self-trained endurance.  Ordinator and Apocalypse should also provide some great poison and disease options for later-game nature damage, but early on he'll basically just have healing and wards.

So, a) what do you think of the build concept? But also:

b) I started initial playtesting to set up the glitches and DAMN IT high elves have 150 starting magicka. Can anyone assist with math on getting the "ultimate atro" glitch to work with a different starting value for magicka? I could mod the magicka bonus out of Altmer, or play it as a wood elf, or just skip infinite magicka...but I don't want to do any of those things if there's an easy fix like "Oh yeah sure, just use this combo of potions and the atro stone and you're good!"

Any thoughts and/or help are appreciated. thanks!

  • OK so I am doing some tests and getting...weird results. I found a combination that seems to work. PotionofHealer+DraughtofHealer+Ring of +30 Magicka. That gives me infinite magicka with 190 total MP. BUT, it only works if i don a +20 Item FIRST, then REPLACE it with a +30 item.

I will do more testing and report results. Weird.

  • OK, promise last reply to my own post. Can someone check me on this? I just did this combo with an altmer: potion of the healer, draught of the healer, atro stone, then a +30 magicka item. That gave me 258 base magicka, and the infinite magicka glitch. VICTORY! If someone else can duplicate it.

It also works without atro stone--just using a +50 item and a +30 item. I prefer it with atro, though--a stunted regen build lets me do like one major spell at start of battle and then it's just the concentration stuff.

  • Before I start can everyone chime in and tell me if a workshop like space is something you’d like to see? I feel like there is a growing demand for it and I am happy to comply if there is one.

Now onto the build. The concept itself is brilliant and far outpaces the brilliance that went into even the black dragon build. I believe the combination of potions s you used indeed work. Kudos to cracking the math.

An alternative to infinite Magic casting can be found in two forms that more than satisfy your roleplay needs. Should you decide to steer away from infinite magic casting look into these.

1 - The perk called Intuitive Magic allows all novice level spells to be cast for free. There are some surprisingly powerful novice apocalypse spells. This satisfies your character’s low level understanding of magic while giving way to some really interesting synergies.

2 - Vancian Magic is the second alternative. It makes it so that your first 20 spells can be cast with zero cost what so ever, but once you’ve casted those 20 spells that’s it for magic use until you’ve had a chance to rest. I’ve done some tests and determined that a concentration spell can be held down indefinitely and still only count as 1 spell.

    • Thanks Curse - I'll think about those other options. I am sort of wedded to trying the 'trick' on both resource pools, and there are some late-game spells like Blood Boil that are basically ideal for a high-health, infinite channel character. But Intuitive Magic is definitely another option--the second rank lets you cast Apprentice spells for free also--and in early testing the ~80% nerfed magic regen was sort of annoying.

I'll see how the testing goes and probably ask some other questions. I have never played around with all the ward perks in Ordinator, those look like a ton of fun. I'll continue to pester the group with questions when I get back from a biz trip later this week.

By the way I love the video work you're doing, keep it up!

  • I’m loving the concept of this build. Reminds me of a very determined try-hard who lacks the natural talent of his peers but surpasses them through sheer willpower.

    • Yes, exactly! I envision him fueling intense bouts of magic and combat from sheer rage (that's the Hulkynd's secret--he's always angry, haha), and then being utterly exhausted afterward. Curse's suggestion on Vancian Magic may fit that mold as well.

I have a bunch of roleplay ideas for my playthrough; for this one, I am going to try to make a mostly gameplay build. I enjoyed my last build, but with all the roleplay, the writeup was SUPER long.
