  • I suppose this got lost in the recent flurry of activity in the skyrim cb group.
  • A build usually becomes overpowered when you abuse more than 1 crafting skill

    • I feel the same way. I typically balance my builds for master difficulty, and I try to design them to be very effective if you follow my instructions yet perform very poorly if you don't.
  • Any mechanics or perks in particular you guys consider a bit overpowered?
    • Well, most exploits are inherently overpowered I think:

      • Infinite Stamina (when paired with something like Shield Charge or stun-locking)
      • Marked for Death (it's broken and essentially gives +9% damage per second for 60 seconds)
      • Windshear (it's broken and is a free guaranteed stagger)
      • Necromage Vampirism

Also a few perks tend to make it very easy for any character to get by once you have them:

      • Impact
      • Quick Reflexes
      • Twin Souls
      • Master of the Mind
      • Necromage (makes killing undead a cakewalk if you use the right spells to benefit from optimal taper damage)
      • Extra Effect

I think Tysoyaha's summary is pretty fair overall, and I also agree with Aysleph that having more than one crafting skill is a good way to make an otherwise balanced build too strong.

      • I'd like to think that any powerful perk can be properly balanced by making he character vulnerable in other ways.

For example a character with a very strong offense could be hampered by terrible defense and durability.
      • not mentioning Shadow warroir, Disarming Bash or Shield Runner?

        • I don't personally consider those perks overpowered.

Shadow warrior wont get you far without something else to shift your enemies focus. Without that it buys you at most a split second reprieve as the enemy reacquires you as their target.

Disarming Bash doesnt work 100% of the time and power bashes arent exactly quick moves.. When it works its well worth its hefty stamina cost but when it doesnt you just spent a ton of stamina and time for nothing.

There is no perk called shield runner, unless you're referring to shield charge.

          • on my current character I have 2/5 stealth perks plus all the ones required to get shadow warrior. even when i´m not using muffled spell or enchantment I can reliably kill any npc by standing in front of them, going into the stealth mode and attacking. the duration of the perk is also longer than it takes you to go in and out of sneak mode( a whole second, not a split one), meaning that you can just indefinitely keep up an invisibility that seems to work better than the actual spell for some reason. if you die while using the shadow warrior stealth setup, you must have done it on purpose. the only thing holding the perk back is the fact that having a follower will prevent it from working as the enemies will be constantly alert while fighting them, therefore making sneak attacks very hard to do.

as for Disarming Bash, with  the right Build, stamina will never be a problem. and in my experience, the succsess rate is about 1/3. This alone makes it pretty powerful. but it doesn´t stop there. the stagger done by the Bash is also longer than the time between two poer bash hits, meaning you can stunlock your enemy for at least 4 hits(considering minimal stamina investment) therefore, most enemies approached with this playstyle will lose their weapon. even worse, there is no criteria that determines how easily or if an  NPC can be disarmed, meaning that even the ebony warrior isn´t immune to this cheap tactic. I even once tried it out and disarmed him twice. once the sword and once the bow. I ended up fighting a bare handed ebony warrior. it wasn´t hard. unarmed NPC damage is laughable at best.

lastly, Yes, I did mean shield charge, sorry, I´ve recently been playing the game in german, therefore I had to translate it on the spot. and as for it being overpowered, I think this doesn´t need an explaination.

  • I personally think that an OP character is defined by the ease with which the state of power is acheived.  for example, a max skilled stealth archer with necromage vampire and an enchanted bow is objectively the strongest playstyle in the game. nobody is gonna argue that it is OP and booring. however a Build that is focused on perfectly timing Dragonhide and ethereal form  with their maximum potential plus having very low shout cooldown and alteration spell cost but while only using the base health is a more tricky subject. if it´s played right it can be just as OP as the afore mentioned Stealth archer, but it takes careful timing, a careful building of your character and a lot of skill. in my opinion, the power output isn´t the defining factor, but rather the amount of effort that has to be put into achieving it.
