Roleplaying Guide: Hedge Knight

The Hedge Knight once honorbound under a noble or royalty, the Hedge Knight has lost it all. No matter what he did, he has lost his title, his lands, his wealth, everything the made them a Sir or Dame. To Roleplay a Hedge Knight is quite simple, even without a lord:

1). Respect the Nine, or whatever pantheon your character believes in. Pay homage to them daily.

2). Defend the innocent. That is, unless you fall to the darker side and become a skilled brigand.

3). Give to the needy.

4.) Fight honorably, but never let a vile enemy flee, and never kill one who surrenders.

5.) Never wear your armor in a temple or other sacred sight unless you are on a mission.

6.) Even though you technically own the home, have your spouse or follower live there, and say they now own the home, and allow you to visit

7.) Though you are no longer a sir or dame, you have a squire, who you teach what you know, so they may attain knighthood one day

A Knightly Brigand

If you are one whose knight, in desperation or because of an inner maliciousness, turns to banditry, then either wear full plate armor, or, if you, like I, prefer the look, wear a knightly armor such as Steel Plate, with Dawnguard armor as the cuirass armor. Travel around on a horse. If you find a travelling noble or caravan, take whatever goods they have, or need be, slay them and take their goods from their bodies. Try and not get too high a bounty in a hold you have a home in, so you may have a hide out of sorts. Or, if you wish, find a nice, preferably non respawning camp or fort to make your base in (Something I’ve grown fond of doing). Build up an armory and a treasure trove in wherever you make your home.

Well, that is pretty much it. It may not be much, but its what I’ve done when playing this sort of character. Someone in the middle of the classic knight in shining armor, and a black knight, one who seeks to do naught but ill upon his fellow man, for but his own merriment. With that, I bid you a good den, my dearest reader.
