Character Build: The Bounder

Hello everypony, and welcome to my latest build. This idea came about from three things. 1. The fact I’ve never really played a character who  used Bound Weapons as their main offense. 2. Velvet Scarlatina, from RoosterTeeth’s RWBY (RIP Monty Oum), especially where we see her weapon and possible Semblance here. And 3. Archer from Fate/Stay (Thank you DB for getting me to finally watch it). Without further ado, let’s get to....

Bounder Theme

You were born to a family of adventurers in High Rock. From a young age, your friends had dubbed you ¨Rabbit Girl¨, and later “The Bounder”, since you were always bouncing from activity to activity, getting into mischief, you were shy, were as agile as a rabbit, had a fondness for carrors , and had a birthmark resembling two pairs of rabbit ears. When you were young, you decided to train in the art of war magics, like your mother. Unfortunately, you found you could only summon forth weapons via the Conjuration School, and only ones you had witnessed in action via your photographic memory.

Not to be deterred, and with the support of your loving wife and family, as well as some hand-to-hand training, you set off with your small band of friends to make your way in the world. You chose to take your own path into Skyrim. While crossing the border, you were caught in a skirmish with Ulfric Stormcloak´s men and a band of Imperials. Believing you to be a Stormcloak sympathizer, you were paralyzed by a mage, and carted off with rebels.

With Alduin´s unknowing aid, you headed away from Helgen for two reasons. One, find your wife, and the second, find out why the ancient dragons are returning to Nirn.....

Race:  Breton. Primarily for the boosts in Conjuration and Speech, as well as the innate 25% resistance to magical attacks, and Dragonskin, allowing you to absorb 50% of magic attacks once per day.

Appearance: Make her somewhat muscular, maybe four or five slides from the foremost right. Give her dark brown hair, the long one with a braid, like Ralof has. Give her brown or green eyes, and with the skin slider, slide it once from the utmost left.

Standing Stone: The Mage or The Warrior to start off with. Once your skills are decently leveled, swap to the Lady Stone, boosted with any found or bought Fortify Restoration potions, for a little added survivability.

Stat Ratio: 3/1/3 in Magicka, Health, and Stamina. Stop perking Health around 170. Magicka can stop around 270. After that, dump everything else into Stamina.

Major Skill(s): Conjuration, One-Handed, Two-Handed, Archery

Minor Skill(s): Enchanting

The Bounder, first and foremost, is a Conjured Weapons fighter. Which weapon she uses depends on the situation at hand. If you´re facing off against several weak opponents, then dual Bound-Swords or a Bound Battleaxe will cover you. If you are confronted by the boss enemy of a dungeon, such as a heavily armored Bandit Chief or Reaver Lord, then summoning a Bound Battleaxe can help out. However, if your enemies are at a longer distance, or you're battling a dragon or two, then a Bound Bow is right up your alley. Some of the most fun I´ve had is archery duels against enemy archers. Unarmed is good if you want to mix stuff up, or find yourself low on Magicka and restore Magicka potions. With an Enchanter’s Philter, with a boost from a Philter of the Healer and Elixir of the Healer, or any made Fortify Restoration potions (Abecean Longfin+Salt Pile), alongside any Fortify Alchemy gear and doing a little Restolooping, and crafting two items left me at a combined 25-32 for some fisting action.

However, make no mistake. You won't be alone in this fight. Your team will consist of your lycanthropic beauty of a wife, Aela (Sorry Sotek), who will act as ranged support when you go in melee preferably with a crossbow and some bolts, Mjoll, who will be the tank while you work range, and Faendel, who'll go in with dual swords as a light armored Agro-taker, with you acting either long or close ranged. When ranged, you and Aela will be quite handy in dealing with dragons, or ranged enemies, whereas the others will be good with groups of enemies, or one or more strong ones, like say, a Bandit Chief, two Bandit Marauders, and a Bandit Outlaw.

For your companions’ weaponry, an Advanced or Dwarven Crossbow for Aela, alongside some regular Steel or Dwarven Bolts, with some Exploding Bolts, preferably the Of Fire variety. For Mjoll, any big two-hander, preferably a greatsword, you can find and enchant, or pre-enchanted, will do. For Faendel, I gave him two Orcish Swords, one enchanted with fire damage, the other soul trap alongside Azura’s Star/any found or bought empty Soul Gems..

One way I played with this build is, in the words of Master Piandao and other famous strategists, is to use the field to my advantage. Say you’re near a ruined fort, and some trees are within sprinting distance. Now, let’s say a Serpentine Dragon or two swoop in to piss in your cereal, well, if any of them land, or shows signs that they’re about to use a Shout, then either duck behind a wall or crouch behind a fallen pillar, or better yet, run over and stand behind the ADBTOI or, Anti-Dragon Breath Tree of Invincibility, seriously, Skyrim’s trees are freaking fire and ice proof. You’ll also want to try and, in the words of Obi-Wan Kenobi, get to the high ground. As I have learned while playing Mount and Blade, going up hill tends to leave you open to enemy fire. So, stand at a higher elevation, this could be something as simple as jumping onto a pillar, and begin raining death from above with Bound Arrows from your Bound Bow, this works wonders in certain Giant Encampments, like the little pillars or rocky area at Guldun Rock.

If you don’t like Bound Weapons, then the Drainheart weapons from Labyrinthian will make do as fitting replacements.

Speaking of jumping, you’ll want to keep on the move, even on Adept. If you’re up against a whole cabal of mages, you’ll want to sprint around, jump across, and Whirlwind Sprint through enemies. You should only really stop moving either to snipe from a higher vantage point, or once everything is deader than Adam Sandler’s career.

For a home, I personally liked staying in either Lakeview Manor, or Breezehome, as both seemed the mostly...homely, one being a simple two story house in the middle of one of Skyrim’s oldest Holds, and the other being a relatively quiet manor in the middle of the woods in between Whiterun and Falkreath Holds. I built Bedrooms, an Enchanting Tower, and a Trophy Room.

  • Keep carrots on you, eat at least two per day if possible.

  • If Aela isn’t adventuring with you, make sure to visit her at your home.

  • In order to use the Bound Counterpart, you have to get at least seven killcams with a regular sword, bow, and two-handed weapon.

  • Regularly take up bounty based quests, preferably doing them with a companion.

  • Format and style wise this is probably among your best. Though I suggestion avoiding the temptation to center indent everything.
    • Thanks Curse, yeah I get what you mean about center indenting everything
  • A very underrated build

    • Thanks Aysleph :)
