Welcome to my spooky build for the equally spooky month of October. This is based off of the mighty warrior of night called the Grim Reaper. This build draws on aspects from all different forms of Death, from the mystical Horseman of the Apocalypse to the robed Thanatos, the Greek Aspect of Death. Enjoy!!

Life is temporary. Death is eternal. Life is a beautiful thing. Death has beauty too. Life plays with you. Death waits in the shadows. Life is curious. Death is certain. Life waits with you now. Death is coming. Life waves goodbye as Death takes your hand.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Race: Orc

Orsimer provide lots of good skills and the Berserker Rage ability justs makes you unstoppable. Other viable options are Nords, with the starting skills and Battlecry or the Redguards with the stamina boost.

Standing Stone: The Lord Stone

This stone gives you even more damage resistance, especially against mages, who can really take you down quickly. Especially necromancers, they defeat Death.

Att. Spread: 0/2/1

This will let you be tanky and perform a fair amount of power attacks. Letting you dispatch enemies quickly without taking to much damage.

Quests: Boethiah's Calling

The build uses the Ebony Mail as a main piece of armor. You kinda need to do this quest to get it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heavy Armor: The build utillizes Heavy Armor as the choice source of protection. The build wears the Ebony Mail, Ebony Gloves and Helmet, and Daedric Gauntlets. Recommended enchants include: Fortify Heavy Armor, Fortify Two-Handed and Resist Poison/Magic.

Two-Handed: The build uses a Daedric Battleaxe to dish out lots of damage onto foes. The axe is augmented by the perks and the enchants laid on it. Recommended enchants include: Absorb Stamina and Soul Trap.

Smithing: This skill is just to craft and improve the Ebony Armor you get.

Conjuration: This skill is important as it allows you to cast Soul Trap with ease and gives you access to the Atronach Forge in the Midden of the College of Winterhold. The forge will allow you to conjure your Daedric Gloves and Battleaxe without having to spend a perk point. You can forgo this and just put an extra point into smithing if you like.

Enchanting: This will use your hard earned souls to properly enchant you gear. Jewelty recommended for the build include an Amulet of Arkay and Ring of Fortify Carry Weight.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The build focuses on rushing enemies before one-twoing them into Oblivion. Your main strategies are to seek cover where, you can easily ambush and focus the ranged foes. Mages can cause quite the problem unless you have good enchants. Beware of over pushing yourself. This build can burst down enemies but is can also be bursted down quickly. There are two really fun ways to play this build.

The first is Judge, Jury and Executioner. Basically cure the world of people who wronged you using your skills. This playstyle doesn't fit with the whole avatar of death theme but still is fun.

You could also play a Contract Killer style. Basically, the rules are, you can only kill NPC's you are told to via a quest or quest marker. You can of course kill people if you need to to progress. Ex. Arvel in Bleakfalls Barrow.

When in a tight spot, using fear spells or Battlecry (If playing a Nord) can help alleviate pressure.

Additional quests include the Dark Brotherhood Questline and the Dawnguard Questline (With no particular alliance). The Civil War is also good as where there is war, there is Death.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, there you are, hope you enjoyed this mini-build. This was for the build event of Halloween 2018. Again, this was inspired by the many Grim Reapers from mythologies around the world. Make sure to chack out other builds during from this event. There are some really great ones. For now, I'll leave you with a poem.

Because I could not stop for Death-
He kindly stopped for me-
The Carriage held but just Ourselves-
And Immortality.

We slowly drove- He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility-

We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess- in the Ring-
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain-
We passed the Setting Sun-

Or rather- He passed us-
The Dews drew quivering and chill-
For only Gossamer, my Gown-
My Tippet- only Tulle-

We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground-
The Roof was scarcely visible-
The Cornice- in the Ground-

Since then- 'tis Centuries- and yet
Feels shorter than the Day
I first surmised the Horses' Heads
Were toward Eternity-

You will need the following mods, all of which are available on both the PC and Xbox One Special Editions of Skyrim.

*Ordinator: Perk Overhaul

*Andromeda: Standing Stones of Skyrim

*Alternate Start: Live Another Life

*Mic357’s Classic Scythes (Classic Scythe SSE for PC users)

To achieve the aesthetic shown here for this build, you’ll need these mods:

* Playable Skeleton Race

* Some Leather Hoods

Of course, you can create your own aesthetic with vanilla stuff if you like, but this is what I used for my character.

During Tamriel’s Witches’ Festival in the month of Frostfall, mortals face the realization of the greatest fears. Ancient and dark magicks are practiced around Tamriel this day, and nothing is quite so terrifying as the animation of a Scarecrow . . .

RACE, STANDING STONES & STATS

Race: Skeleton

Stats: H - 50% M - 40% S - 10%

Standing Stone: The Shadow

LORE

Tamriel’s annual Witches’ Festival is to most mortals an opportunity to make light of that which terrifies them, and to celebrate the coming autumn season. Yet, there is a darker side to this day of celebration. Something about that night makes it ripe for the darkest and foulest of necromantic rituals and evil conjurations.

The ancient arcane art of corruption has existed as long as necromancy has been known to mortals. Only the darkest of magicks and most evil of sorcerers are capable of animating an object that wasn’t meant to live or walk, and yet mortals seem to have a lust to prove that they can go a step beyond the line of possibility and morality. When the time is ripe for dark magick during Tamriel’s Witches’ Festival, the most skilled of conjurers and necromancers meet in secret all across the continent in an attempt to build a body out of inanimate materials and bind it to one of the restless spirits that has lost its way to Aetherius.

Although such endeavours rarely succeed, when they do the results are more terrifying than one could imagine. When a spirit is unwillingly bound to something that was never alive, or indeed meant to be alive, it drives the spirit insane and unable to fully control their hideously animated host. The false bodies that these arcanists use are typically created from old bits of wood, sacks, and straw, giving them a bent, decaying, and shambling appearance. Indeed, it is this particular practice that has earned such creatures their name: Scarecrows.

When the spirit’s consciousness breaks due to being bound to one of these “Scarecrow” bodies, it loses everything but the will to avenge it's own loss of self by using a powerful and terrible tool to make others feel the same: fear.

SPELLS & EQUIPMENT

Clothes: Grey (or Brown) Leather Hood w/ Scarf (Amplify Illusion enchantment), Ragged Robes (Influence: Fear enchantment), Ragged Boots (Fortify Speed enchantment), Necklace of choice (Siphon Health enchantment)

Weapon: Steel Scythe (Fear enchantment)

Spells: Illusion - Rout, Pale Shadow, Shared Trauma, Evil Twin, Empathetic Agony Restoration - Fast Healing, Bone Spirit

PERKSPREAD

ABILITIES & COMBAT STYLE

Mindless Terror - Your shambling appearance and leering grin are enough to instill the deepest of fear into your enemies’ hearts, but you want to go deeper; to truly teach your foes the meaning of mindless horror, fabricate fear in the form of pure magicka so powerful that their muscles go slack and they literally drop their weapons in fright as soon as they raise them against you.

Requirements: Descending Light, Soulcrusher, Imposing Presence and Terror perks

This ability is geared to be used directly at the start of combat. With the Descending Light perk your magicka regeneration will be extremely high at the very start of combat, but the effect will gradually degrade over a period of 15 seconds. Within this 15 seconds you can get a lot of Fear spells off on your opponents; and although this ability is not entirely dependent on Soulcrusher, it helps to have the extra 25 /sec magicka absorption from those enemies in the radius of Imposing Presence to get as many of those spells off as quickly as possible. The icing on the cake, terror will forces those within the radius of Imposing Presence to drop their weapon as well, making them nearly harmless in combat.

Feel My Pain - Every second is agony as you are trapped inside this shambling, barely animate body. Your only thought is to force others to feel your pain. How much fear and pain can the body of a man or mer withstand before it days, unable to host its spirit any longer? The time has come to find out.

Requirements: Shared Trauma + Scythe + Empathetic Agony spell OR Lamb to the Slaughter perk

This is a brutal ability that begins by casting Shared Trauma on one target that you would like to damage at the very beginning of combat. There are two versions of this ability: one for use when you are being attacked directly by an enemy, and another for when you want quick and easy damage.

To use the close-range version of this ability, quickly cast the spell a second time on the enemy attacking you, and then start hitting him with your scythe. As damage is dealt to the attacker from your scythe, equal damage will be dealt to the initial target of the spell. On top of that, any damage you receive will also affect your attacker, which in turn translates to the initial target once more.

To use the “fast damage” version of the ability, you must find an enemy affected Fear in some form or another. Activate them, and the Lamb to the Slaughter perk will cause them to stand, petrified, for 30 seconds. This allows you to easily hit them numerous times with your weapon, and because of Shared Trauma, the damage will be dealt to both the paralyzed enemy and the initial target of the Shared Trauma spell.

Hallucinogenic Horror - The body and mind of an enemy are possessed so much by terror that they start to conjure up illusions in their mind. Their horror is so great that their petrifying illusions and the damage they deal begins to manifest itself physically. Interesting. Fear is an even more powerful tool than you thought . . .

Requirements: Evil Twin + Nemesis perk

This is a pretty simple ability. Activating a hostile enemy will activate the Nemesis perk, which summons an illusion of that target that does 1% extra attack damage to the targeted enemy for every level you have in enchanting. At the same time, using the Evil Twin concentration spell, you can focus on the same enemy to summon another illusion of them that will also deal damage. This is an easy and effective way to deal damage in combat while not having to get close enough to use your scythe.

______________________________________

Combat for the Scarecrow should almost always start with the Mindless Terror ability. Since the Scarecrow isn’t exactly a tank, having as many enemies under a fear effect as possible will be key. That being said, some of the perks in that ability will take awhile to get, but a fair few of them are accessible at early game, so you should be able to use at least a watered-down version at earlier levels. Casting Bone Spirit as well is a fairly cheap way to divert some attention away from yourself, allowing you to get off some of your other abilities.

That said, the Scarecrow does also have some fail-safe mechanisms in case things go awry and you find yourself taking unreasonable amounts of damage. First off, the Fast Healing spell is your basic “I Need Health Fast” go-to. You’ll also be getting some health consistently from close-range opponents from the Siphon Health enchantment. You can also use the close-range version of the Feel My Pain ability to get enemies out of your face. 50% health stat allocation should also give you a decent bit of cushion.

The last thing I’ll mention here is the reasoning for the movement speed enchantment, along with the 20% combat movement speed boost from the Shadow Stone. The main reason these were taken is because a lot of your abilities require you to be fairly close-ish to opponents, and if most of them are fleeing in terror, you’re going to need a way to catch up to them.

ROLEPLAYING & EXTRAS

When it comes to roleplaying, obviously limit social contact, especially within cities, as it’s pretty un-immersive for an undead creature to be making small talk with the citizens of Skyrim. Inflicting pain and trying to sew as much horror as possible is the main goal. To that end, the Dark Brotherhood and Vampire side of the Dawnguard quest are options, but the roleplaying is a bit dodgy for a character like this.

Because of this, I’d recommending throwing most RP to the wind here and going around and enjoying the playstyle and halloween spirit. Do whatever questlines catch your fancy and enjoy this creepy character any way you want.

A mount and housing are unnecessary for this character, and followers are optional. If you want some housing, the Soul Cairn is an option, or any creepy housing, especilly if it let's you live in the undead plane (ex. Necrosis - A Player World Space). You could also use the witches' hut in Eastmarch if you wanted to go vanilla, but keep in mind you'd be killing that witch quite often.

You don’t really need a follower because you can conjure Bone Spirits to divert attention from yourself, and also create illusory images to help with damage dealing, but if you have a follower you want to use, go right ahead.

GO FORTH!

Thanks for checking out my submission to the “This Is Halloween” build event. Apologies for the slightly shoddy roleplaying element of this character, but hopefully the combat playstyle somewhat makes up for it. Thanks to Chris Diokno for the idea for this event: I had tons of fun making this character. No go forth! Cause pain and suffering across Skyrim! Haunt the dreams the its citizens and work your way into local legend as the most terrifying monster to wander its snowy peaks!

Greetings, sera. Blackblood here with a Mini-Event Build for the Halloween event. This is an idea I've had in my cranium for about two months now: The concept of a serial killer in Skyrim, like the ones you see in those slasher movies. More speficifally the big three from Friday the 13th, Holloween and Nightmare on Elm Street. The murderers from these series were superhuman, unfeeling, and absolutely terrifying for their victims. In this build, I wanted to take something from these killers, throw them on a character in Skyrim and see what happens. This build is a resultant of that, so without further ado let's get started shall we?

Keep in mind, this is an Ordinator build!

Sneak
"Of course, this all assumes you ever get a shot at him.

"How he fights? Hard to say. Most people who go against him in battle don't survive to tell the tale, and the few that do are too scarred
to give any sort of useful information. Still, with enough hounding and by filling the blanks myself, I think I got a good idea of how the
bastard likes to do his work. He'll usually try to sneak up on someone, get in as many kills as possible. He can use that stealthy magic from Illusion to make himself hard to get to, but eventually he'll slip up. When that happens you'd better run, cuz he's about to throw caution to the wind and put an axe through your head. And if you ain't afraid yet, he'll make sure you will be."

...Built-in story aside, combat as The Butcher is very simple. Start out each conflict with stealth and aim to take out as many enemies as possible before being detected, at which point you go out and start chopping heads. Should you find yourself in danger in any way use Fear spells to relieve some of the pressure. With Lamb to the Slaughter, you can doom one enemy to certain death, and the others will be weaker due to Terror causing them to drop their weapons.

Your targets are humans, so try not to bother with anything else unless it's absolutely necessary (like in Namira's quest). Of course, as long as it's a human, it can be whatever you care to hunt, be it bandits or necromancers. And always remember to stalk your prey at night. You can be as mild-mannered as you'd like during the day, but when night falls you should be out in the darkness looking for your next victim.

Your survivability comes from three main sources: High health, high regen, and Energy Shield. You gain high health from putting all of your attribute points into health, as well as choosing health in Alter Self: Attributes. High regen comes from the Lady Stone, your enchanted gear, as well as feeding with the Ring of Namira. The Ring also gives you 50 extra points of health. The Energy Shield perk from Alteration will reduce damage by 35% while you're wearing chest clothing and no armor.

Energy Shield drains magicka equal to the damage that was reduced, and loses effectiveness past 50% of your base, but taking the Vancian Magic perk solves this. This perk causes your magicka to become effectively infinite, and allows you to cast "any' spell in the game for no magicka, but you will be restricted to a certain number of spells you can cast until you sleep in an owned bed or an inn, and if you run out your magicka will immediately hit zero. So don't use all of your Fear spells up too quickly, or you'll lose that 35% damage protection.

You'll want to put Fortify One-Handed on your gloves and boots, and fortify Health Regen on your chest and necklace. You can put whatever you'd like on your headgear. your axe will have an Absorb Health enchant, and that'll help with your regen. The headgear can be any clothing that completely obscures the face, but I recommend the tan Execution Hood, as seen in the screenshots.

Rather than focus on a famous story or character, I wanted to do something everyone knows and has seen at some point... the figure in the dark. We've all seen... 'it;' standing... somewhere. You don't know where, but he's there, you caught him; just off the corner of your eye... 'It's just my imagination... but what if it isn't?' And you never go to sleep. So, why not make a build off that? Here's my take on The Figure in The Dark.

Story

The Rise of The Boethian Cult in Skyrim

By Author Maro Motierre

His birth is unknown, his age is unknown, even his own existence is shrouded in legends and myths– though he was, or is, a very real character.

While his birth name is forgotten, he is most famously known by his title ‘The Dark Figure,’ and I’ll be refereeing to him as such.

His father was a high priest of Boethiah leading the cult for almost 20 years before his assassination– his mother was also a priestess of Boethiah. As such, the Figure was raised from birth to be a worshiper of Boethiah- to kill in her name. But there was a major problem- his physique was lacking and was not like the other boys in the cult, and more than often lost duels, because of this he was viewed as a disappointment by his mother and much of the cult, though, strangely he was not killed as his father ‘sensed’ something in him.

His first kill was at the humble age of 12 where on one somber night he slit another boys throat that had previously teased and bullied him. This was the birth of his ‘style.’ He had loved how easy and calm it was to kill a person in this manner- calmly, quietly, with no sound. He began to delve into Illusion to soothe and terrify- becoming a fan of fear magic later in his life.

Though, this life would not last long, as three members of the cult planned a coup; a Great War soldier by the name of Skjor and two banits- Hajvarr and Haldyn. Their reasons have been lost to the ages; with the one… thing that might know them is the Figure. Why? Well– he knew. He knew of the coup, of the slaughter, yet did nothing; he simply went back to sleep. This was his way, ‘Those who cannot fight their own battles, must be left to die.’ Unsurprisingly, it was this philosophy that allowed him to crush the rebel forces of Skyrim known as the Stormcloak. Some say the Figure ripped Ulfric’s head from his body using his bare hands; others say he devoured Ulfric– the reality? Ulfric Stormcloak was decapitated; by whom no one knows, but I can make an educated guess and I’m sure you can too.

On the day of the coup, the Figure was notoriously absent, away from the slaughtering, it is said his father died while searching for him receiving a sword in the back while doing so– the Figure would never return to that place until much later in his life.

For a time, he wandered Skyrim– listening, stalking, and hunting. It’s believed that the Figure would hear voices that warned him of attacks before they happened, and saw shadows that guided him to safety.

Yet despite this life of isolation, murder, and Daedra worship, you could never tell him apart from a crowd, many believed him to just be a silent man who preferred the relaxing hymn of nothingness rather than the boisterous tone of sound- no one believed him to be a cold-blooded murder, a mercenary yes, but not a murderer… but, what’s the difference?

It was said, on a moonless night, where all the stars had vanished; seemingly hiding behind the moon; the Figure heard a whisper that would forever change his life and the life of Tamriel itself– ‘It’s time, my son.’

It was time to bring all those who could bow-to bow to the one and only: Boethiah.

With this intent, no-one would know that the Harbinger of the Companions, the right hand of Queen Elisif, and her suspected lover, the ‘Shield of Solitude,’ the ghostly silent ‘Protector of Skyrim’ was the High Priest of Boethiah, the murder of Emperor Titus Mede the II, and the Listener.

Overview

Race: Any. I chose Breton for the massive boost in conjuration; the magic resistance, and I Dragonhide, I roleplayed it as an ancient magic art taught to the character by Boethiah (it's also very fun to use.)

Standing Stone: The Mage to start off then the Serpant for the paralyze (you ever been so afriad you couldn't move?).

Stat Distribuation: Magicka/ Health/ Stamina= 2/1/1

Skills & Perks

Illusion– The Dark Figure appears from darkness– nothingness, he can’t be heard, and he can only be seen if you stare in the dark long enough, to create this effect: Invisibility+ Muffle combo is used quite often, as well as both Fear and Calm spells– this depends on your mood– play with your food before you enjoy it.

Conjuration– Conjuration was used for support; exclusively using fire-based Atronachs. I used Flaming Familiars A LOT as they’re literally guided fireballs, and spammed them until everything was ash, or only the strongest remained– which is where the Flame Atronachs came in handy.

One Handed– The main damage skill. This was quite fun, running after a terrified opponent or disremembering nicely dismembering an opponent who was mysteriously over come with calmness. I never like being messy… I’m not a murder I swear.

Sneak– Surprise was a very big part of this build and stealth was used a lot. It’s usually how combat’s initiated. One of my favorite things to do was to walk around enemies and just watch them… man, they had no clue what was coming.

Equipement

Roleplay & Gameplay

I roleplayed as a devout worshiper of Boethiah who’s main goal was to get more and more people into the cult of Boethiah, but focused more on the cynical/sly approach. I didn’t just rebel against everything, or fighting anyone; I was calm, calculating and precise. I’d ‘help’ very few, as those who cannot win their own battles are weak– undeserving of Boethiah ‘s time, and unworthy to worship her.

A good example of how this character should be played was when I ‘joined’ the Companions. When I first met Aela, she talked how I wasn’t much help killing the giant, I brushed it off saying they didn’t look like they need help, she bantered on about ‘True Warriors’ an offered me to join a Companions– and order of warriors. This reeked of opportunity. I went to Jorrvaskr to scout out the warrior. They seemed… capable. So, I went out; practiced my skills on live subjects and return. In the end I found myself the Harbinger, all with the intention of making this guild a secret cult of Boethiah. I rarely help Aela, as she remained loyal to Hircine, but cured Vilkas and Farkas, again just to make them Cultist of Boethiah.

Going to extreme lengths to turn people to cultists is the main point of this playthrough.

Thus, the gamelpay complimenent the roleplay, I always scout an area before I attacked. How many enemies are there? Where are they? Are they spread out? How many are out of sight? After that I assassinated a few, routed a few, calmed a few, killed a few. That's the formula pretty much. Thinking before attacking is key.

I highly recommend playing on Master or stwitching to it once you near the build's level cap. It makes you think way more than playing on adept or expert.

As for Guilds and Quests

Companions– Like I said, Boethiah values blood over all, a group of mercaneries fits that description perfectly.

Dark Brotherhood– Of course your the listener.

For quests, help those you consider strong, or would be uesful to Boethiah, leave the weak in their pits.

E.N.D.

In honor of Halloween, or its original Samhain if you celebrate it as such, welcome to my mini-build. Taking the classic ghost concept and giving it a twist with some aid from Japanese folklore, let’s give a bony hand for…

“In Nibenese folklore, there exist the Onryo. These wraiths are said to be the souls of those who die violent deaths. It is said their rage is what fuels them, lashing out at all who stand in the way of it and the one(s) who slew it in life. Tales tell of some who have been known to cause minor earthquakes, pestilence, and worse.

Though spectral in nature, unlike most spirits, the Onryo tend to appear in more solid forms, able to interact with the physical plane more so than their more incorporeal comrades.

The Nibenese Onryo-By Corvus Fantome

Now, I’m sure you’ve seen these long haired, often white dressed revenants in media, the most famous of which being the Ring/Ringu films, with Sadako Yamamura, or The Grudge/Ju-On films with its leading spectre Kayako Saeki (Her son Toshio being a male example). Though one of the more recent examples, gaming wise is Hisako from Killer Instinct.

Race: Imperial Vampire. Not only has it been awhile since I’ve played an Imperial, but the bonuses to Enchanting and Destruction are handy, plus, Nibenese.

Standing Stone: The Mage to start with, then move on to the Shadow, for once per day Invisibility, or The Ritual, to summon some fellow undead for aid in your quest for vengeance

Stat Spread: 2/0/4 in Magicka, Health, and Stamina

Inspiration: Sadako Yamamura/Hisako/Kayako Saeki (The Ring/Ringu, Killer Instinct, The Grudge)

Appearance: Give her pale skin, and for her cheeks, for height slide it all the way to the right, width all the way to the left. Add max darkness eyeliner, etc

Primary Skills: Two-Handed, Illusion, Destruction

Secondary Skills: Lockpicking, Enchanting

Skills

Two-Handed-Used to bump up the damage of the Ebony Blade, and because Sweep combines well with the health absorb effect.

Destruction-As this character doesn’t really use any ranged damage Shouts, Destruction magic both fits the “lore” of the Onryo, and acts as a way to damage dragons.

Lockpicking-Being an incorporeal entity, locks are no barrier to a ghostly entity (Even moreso with console commands)

Illusion-Like the shadow of the Reaper, the Onyro invokes an aura of dread upon her foes.

Enchanting-Harvesting the souls of her victims, the Onryo imbues her vestments with their soulsongs.

Equipment

Gameplay

Gameplay as the Onryo is meant to be simple, yet also rather terrifying. Simply put, start out by casting first Muffle to quiet your footsteps, pop on an optional Cloak, then Invisibility to make you, well, invisible. By doing this, you can go into sneak mode, without ever having to tap the trigger or whatever button you assigned for stealth.

After that, simply stroll up to the closest enemy and, thanks to Quiet Casting, silently hit them with Marked for Death, then follow up with Fear to drive out the weaker ones, laying down Runes and AOE spells like Blizzard as they run past, then begin dueling the tough ones, using Become Ethereal to stay alive. Focus on mages, especially fire mages due to their increased damage to you, and archers. Once we’re down to the last enemy, hit him with a Paralysis spell or poison, then finish him off with Soul Tear.

As for Dragons, as we don’t advance far enough into the Main Quest to unlock Dragonrend, we’ll have to use a mixture of Marked for Death and spells such as Firebolt and Ice Spear, or Storm Call, to slowly chip away at him until he’s forced to land, then go ham on him with the Ebony Blade.

For factions I joined the Dark Brotherhood to gut Gaius Maro, and the Dawnguard, if only to kill Vingalmo, who in my backstory were my Onryo’s jilted lover and murderer, respectively.

Farewell, my darling....

Roleplay

Roleplay as an Onryo depends on whether you want to stick to only killing your target, IE go “ghost mode” via muffle and invisibility until you reach them, or full wrath mode, and kill both the target and anyone nearby. So, say you find Gaius in Solitude. You can either silently gut him while no one’s around, or attack in broad daylight, slashing your way out of the city.

Also, try and keep communication to a minimum, you’re a spectre of vengeance first, former Nirnly individual second.

Japense Folklore: The Onryo

.

The first half of the lore in the opening is pretty much taken word for word from various wiki entries on Onryo, and all of them, at least for plays and other media, have a similar look, IE:

Wild, long black hair

White burial Kimono

Pale faces with blue shadow facepaint.

Hence what I tried to copy. Though in my case, on PC, I was able to use the Moth Priest Robes. Aside from the modern incarnations, one of the most well known is that of Oiwa, from the old Kabuki play Yotsuya Kaidan where a ronin slays his wife, and his driven to madness over time by her spirit.

And yes, while more often than not women, there are male Onyro. One such case was Sugawara no Michizane, a politican and poet from the mid 800’s, it is recorded that after his ousting from the position, and later death, all those who were connected to his ousting died, whether to unknown causes, or lightning. Afraid of his apparent curse, the government brought his sons out of exile, posthumously reinstated him and then made him Grand Minister. He is now revered as a god of education.

The legends have, like the manga and anime character Tiger Mask, have inspired a number of wrestlers.

Thanks

So, thank you for reading my build, as well as a big thanks to Lee Fiskillis Carpenter for the spreads as usual, and Pixel for hosting the Event.

Event Build: The Skin Walkerhttps://TheSkyForge.ning.com/groups/tes-character-building/forum/event-build-the-skin-walker2018-10-16T02:40:24.000Z2018-10-16T02:40:24.000ZLeehttps://TheSkyForge.ning.com/members/LeeFiskilisCarpenter

Hey guys! When I heard about the Halloween Mini Build Event, I wanted to join and create my own character, however, I was (and still am) confused about Halloween as I've never celebrated. Hell, thinking of a build that is both unique and worthy of being in an Event was even harder, until I was told about Skin Walkers

DISCLAIMER: Skin Walkers in the Elder Scrolls Universe
(To my knowledge there is nothing similar to Skin Walkers in the ES Universe, so I will be creating 'false' lore for the sake of the build. Those who are interested in reading about Skin Walkers can, find some infomation at the end of the Build).

The Skin Walker

Few have seen of a Skin Walker, and even fewer have survived the battle/ordeal, as most are left dead with their hearts eaten, or missing. Never to be found again.

All that is known about these Skin Walkers is that they have the ability to shapeshift into another animal or person. A werewolf-like appearance being the most common. There are rumours that these 'Skin Walkers' are either creation of Hircine and Namiira.

Only rumours are known about Skin Walkers, however, in those rumours are grains of truth. And from what I've learnt about those few grains of truth is that these Skin Walkers could be living amongst us, without us even knowing...

-Myths, Legends and Rumours, Unknown.

The Build

Race: Nord Werewolf
Stats: 1/2/1
Stone: Mage -> Lord/Lady
Main/Major Quests: The Silver Hand, Ill met by the Moonlight (DON'T complete), Totems of Hircine.

I've never really played as a Nord often at all, as I thought of them as essentially just brutes, barbarians that bring nothing to the table, but hell was I wrong. I highly recommend playing as a Nord as you get a 50% Resist Frost (most enemies that I encountered used Frost) and if everything turns pear shaped, Battle Cry can be used as a last resort. Essentially a Level 99 Fear Shout.

Skill Overview

Conjuration: I mainly used Conjuration purely as additional support when I was in battle, with both Summons and the Bound Sword, which meant, I never had to worry about carrying a weapon or being disarmed. If you want, Necromancy is a perfectly good subsititue compared to Atromancy.

Illusion: I had decided to use Illusion for something I've never done with it for a while. Using it for Fear. It really suits the Build itself, when combined with Turn Undead and Howl of Terror, as whats more frightening that a Skin Walker?

Light Armor: I found this skill quite useful for survivalability and Roleplay. As nothing, that I know of suits a Skin Walker more better than a set of Forsworn Armor, and hell, Forsworn Armor isn't very strong, hence the amount of perks.

Lycanthropy: Lycanthropy was the skill that brought this entire build together. Combined with the Cursed Ring of Hircine, I can nearly guarantee that every playthrough will be different, along with the Totem/Howl of Terror, even in Werewolf form, you have no need to worry about being overwhelmed.

One Handed: This skill was quite useful and fun. As nothing has been as more pleasing then using Critical Charge against a target that has been hit by Fear/Rout. Hell, even Savage Strike made it give my enemies even more reason to fear the Skin Walker.

Restoration: This skill was mainly used for Healing (obviously) with the occasional Turn Undead and Turn Lesser Undead (staggers all Draugr regardless of Level, unlike Turn Undead). Hell, even Wards were helpful against Necromancers, blocking their annoying Frost Spells.

Arms and Armour

As I stated before, I found the Forsworn Armor set to really suit a Skin Walker, especially with the edition of Human skulls on the 'belt' of the Forsworn Armor. In my opinion the Cursed Ring of Hircine really lets this Build shine, as it has a 10% chance to turn the Character into a Werewolf (every hour in-game time), allowing for some very interesting battles and decimations.

As you probably noticed I haven't included any Necklaces in the Equipment Spread above, as I personally never really used any sort of jewellery besides the Cursed Ring. If you want, the Helmet of the Old Gods, can be swapped with the Forsworn Headdress.

Combat

Throughout my entire playthrough, I never really had much problem as combat is fairly simple, for this Build. I can not stress enough the usage of Turn/Repel Lesser Undead along with Fear/Rout.

Against the Undead, (which was commonly Draugr), I found myself using Turn Lesser Undead (for the Stagger effect) in a 1v1 battle, whereas Repel Lesser Undead was useful against groups where both my Atronach and myself had the odds against us.

Against Living enemies (Bandits, Forsworn etc), I found myself using Rout/Fear regardless of the amount of enemies. If the odds were stacked against myself, I would find myself focusing primarily on the strongest enemy (sometimes wasn't affect by Rout).

Against Mages, I found Frost Atronachs (against Necromancers) and Storm Atronachs (against any other Mages), to be extremely effective. However, I always approached with my Ward raised, just in case they switched targets onto myself.

One thing that I can say is besides any Fear effects, is never underestimate the power of Summons.

Roleplay

Roleplaying as a Skin Walker is fairly broad and easy, depending on how far you want to go. I personally found myself acting like a Shaman, only to be replaced/corrupted by a Skin Walker around Level 25 (when I became a Werewolf and obtain the CRoH).

With every transformation, I imagined my character slowly becoming more dangerous and willing to attack anything and everything regards of who they were. In a sense a Chaotic Evil (I think that would best describe it) character, by Level 40.

Native American Mythology: Skin Walkers

Skin Walkers are apart of the Native American mythology, also known as a "yee naaldlooshi" (Navajo for "by means of it, he/she/it walks around on four legs), and is usually a person with supernatural ability to shapeshift into either another animal or another human being.

They are very similar to Werewolves and other paranormal shape shifters, with a few key differences though. Most Skin Walkers abilities are largely powered by dark rituals or the breaking of native taboos. Each Native American tribe's version differs in the details of Skin Walkers. Most Skin Walkers are differentiatedd from their brethern by being able to take multiple shapes, but are not free-form shapeshifters.

The myths that usually describe them as humans who wear only an animal skin, or an abomination of human and animal forms. In the mythology, they have a few extra abilitys such as Telepathy, Voice Changeling (mimicking human and animal sounds) to name a few.

Skin Walkers are considered to be one of the most fearsome monsters in Native American Mythology

Closing Notes

I would like to thank;
-Chris Diokno for raising my curiosity about the Event and telling me about TV Tropes (where I found the Skin Walker).
-Pixel, for holding the Halloween Mini Build Event. I can't wait to see what the next Event will be!
-Cat.B for allowing me to use her font 'Stranger Back in the Night' from DaFont in my Banners (Both on my Page and at the bottom of the Build)

If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. And don't forget to hit that like button folks!
