Writing Playlists

Feel free to share any songs or playlists that get you in the mood to write or imagine! I believe music is an important motivator for any aspiring writer and it really helps me get my creative juices flowing.

HERE is a playlist for one of my stories.

  • My playlist (or background noise, if you want to call it that) is live birdsinging. Literally, I go to a place where birds can be heard and do my thing there.
  • It's not a playlist, it's a song. From Game of Thrones, actually. The origional is only 7 minutes but there is an excellent extended version that I love to listen to while writing, especially when writing fantasy.

  • Try LBP soundtrack. Little Big Planet is the game embodiment of creative freedom.
Other than that, McGee's Alice and Madness Returns OSTs are pretty good options.
  • When I'm writing, I like to listen to music from the same genre I write in (for Slice of Life I like current pop music, for Skyrim, usually fantasy game/show scores). What I find really helpful is Pandora. They literally have a playlist for everything. For my current story, I'm listening to the Skyrim station. They have music from Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, as well as Halo, Mass Effect, LOTR/Hobbit, and a lot of covers of songs. I used to only listen on my laptop when I wrote, but I downloaded the app because I loved the scores so much.

Do you know how intense it is to cook pancakes to Song of the Dragonborn? My life is cooler with fantasy scores.

    • "Pandora is only available in the U.S."
      Yeah... nice.
  • My playlist consists of about 48 total hours of heavy metal, and rock music.
