Bethesda's Creation Club Scam

We all know and love deeply the new Creation Club from Bethesda. Who wouldn't enjoy paying a large amount of money for meaningless reskins and items that you can find on Steam for free? Well here are some details you may not be aware of.

https://creationclub.bethesda.net/static/images/creation-club-social.jpg

Bethesda launched Creation Club recent and for 100% free, no joke, gave everyone free credits to buy things! When you check  out what you can get you will find it is...ummm....bullshit. For the meager pittance you get for free you can buy a single reskin of some crap that barely looks different. Check it out for yourself. If you want anything meaningful, like a new set of power armor, it will cost you real money. Their free credits are nothing more than the first hit of a crack rock, hoping you will come back over and over to pay for it. They also set up the credit system so that you will never use all of your credits and will almost certainly need to buy more credits than what you need.

Another thing you may not know is Bethesda keeps 100% of the profits from their mods on Creation Club. They pay the modders a negotiable amount around $400, or so I've heard. Bethesda owns 100% of the rights to the mods and will never pay the modder another cent. Imagine if a mod goes viral, its awesome and sells half a million copies. If it costs $5 worth of credits to buy the mod that means Bethesda has made 2.5 million dollars just for providing a place to sell the mod. The poor schmuck who made the mod got $400 and Bestesda got millions. If the modder doesn't like this he can just go kick rocks. Modders can make more money selling on Steam (like they tried a few years ago) than going with Bethesda. This means no great modders will likely join the Creation Club any time soon.

Now lets discuss what modders can actually do. According to super secret sources, one of which was banned from the Creation Club for talking about it,the creation kit allows them to store up to 4000 records. The DLC Automatron was 50,000 records. That means it is literally impossible for anything good to come out of Creation Club. No new lands. Now DLC-like adventures we all hoped for. Nothing but horse armor, some weapons and new skins.

Thank you Bethesda. We love you sooooo much. Have a great day!

  • "Their free credits are nothing more than the first hit of a crack rock, hoping you will come back over and over to pay for it. They also set up the credit system so that you will never use all of your credits and will almost certainly need to buy more credits than what you need."
That's some valid business model here.

"creation kit allows them to store up to 4000 record. The DLC Automatron was 50,000 records. That means it is literally impossible for anything good to come out of Creation Club."
    Now this I don't understand.

Modders should at least get a %. But still, they'll receive money for a thing they did not make money off of so far. Maybe even get experience working with professional Bethesda developers. So unless creative freedom restrictions are too rigid, it's still better for em.
    • I edited that bit about records, but just to add an "s" to record. Anyway....they are basically severely limited in what they can produce because the storage system is not big enough. They could not create something as small as Automatron, much less new lands and quests.

      • So it basically means no really big mods?
        • Not even big mods at all. There will never be a DLC-like mod come out of creation club unless they do something severe.

          • For perspective, horse power armor is like 300 records. So nothing can have more "information" than 13 horse armors.

            • I think I get it.
  • Well, now we all know why they were so vague about the Creation Club at E3. As hard as it is to believe, it's actually WORSE than the paid-mods on Steam scam! At least there were tons of mods, you could buy them individually, and there were some good ones. But no...it looks like Bethesda is incapable of learning anything and just love to demonstrate over and over again that they hate their fans.

Personally I'm burned out. I haven't even loaded up Skyrim in a week, and I've long since uninstalled Fallout 4. Just thinking about continuing to support these baffoons by creating content based around their games makes me ill.

    • I still have hopes that they will produce the best open world RPGs in the future. They are dabbling in how to make even more money and they are screwing up badly at every turn. Hopefully money grabbing does not hurt the single player games of the future that we all loved in the past.

    • If you're burned out, I understand. It's as if Bethesda has a sound proof wall separating them and their fans.

Me, I love the games regardless of how inept it's creators are. Been thinking of making my own let's plays and build vids. If you're willing, perhaps you could throw some pointers my way?
      • There are a LOT of Skyrim let's plays, so it's hard to stand out from the crowd. But build videos are still incredibly popular. You just have to pick something to focus on and run with it. For FudgeMuppet it's elaborate backstories. For HX it's obscure lore-inspired builds. Myself I've been focused on builds that make use of the Ordinator perk mod.

Besides that just make your videos look and sound as good as you can and make sure your build looks interesting and exciting to play!
