Need Help with Inspiration

Help a noob out. Where do you guys get your ideas from for your builds? I want to make a good build so badly but I cant  come up with anything and always end up as a sneak archer or 2h Warrior.

  •  If it's inspiration you need, may I direct you to Blackblood's Armor Collection.

This is one of my favorite threads on the site and hold plenty of inspiration to be tapped into.

Blackblood's Armor Combo Collection (Part 2)
Greetings, sera. Have you ever sought inspiration for a build through images or screenshots of armor from Skyrim? Or had an idea for a combination of…
    • I should take a look at that. Thanks.

  • If you find yourself always defaulting back to the same old play styles try something you’ve never done before and force yourself to stick with it.

Easiest way to do that is to play other people’s builds because you’re guaranteed to find play styles that differ wildly from what you typically play.

    • I think I want to try a mage next. I play on legendary but mages always feel so weak to me.

      • Well what have you tried so far with mages?

        • I use a lot of 100% cost enchantments because mages burn mana too quickly.

          • That’s got to get boring pretty quickly, does it not?

  • Most of my build ideas are inspired by either lore, or by outside sources, like books, anime, other games, songs, etc

  • Personally, I largely get inspiration from other games. For example, I have a series running based on the Heroes from For Honor. Other times I'll get inspiration from movies or books. Another thing I use often is characters from the TES Legends cards. You can find the database here. There are loads of cards with awesome artwork that's really good for inspiration. Otherwise it's something from mythology or legend.

Something that helps me when it comes to pumping out ideas is to have several "series" running, or maybe just one depending on how you operate. For example, I have the For Honor series I mentioned. Having a feasible goal to move toward (in this case creating the final For Honor hero in Skyrim) and having an end in sight can help when it comes to build inspiration and motivation. Some people like to take things one build at a time, but I have loads of ideas at all times for different characters in a series I have planned. Writing all these ideas down helps gives me a starting point for each character in the series.

Probably an overly long response but that's how the conceptualizing process works for me. Hopefully it helps you out somehow.

  • Hmm, I know that feeling all too well Prototype. Sorry for the late reply.

As for your question, I second Blackblood's Armor Collection and Curse's suggestion on using/doing what you haven't done before.

As for my advice? Simple, use outside sources. Hell, mix and match certain builds, such as the Squib (by Elysium) and my Mage of Arkay (probably won't work as that was off the top of my head). Even better, take certain things that you enjoy from other builds and add your own spin.
