Skull of Corruption - Viable or Absolute Trash?

Almost no build uses this weapon, but I like to think its because not enough has been done to fully explore this weapons potential. Here's what I've come to find about this staff:

Pros:

  • Fires very rapidly. Bolts fire on almost a hair trigger.
  • Deals Aoe Damage
  • Deals up to 50 damage per bolt when dreams are absorbed.

Cons:

  • AOE size is almost negligible
  • Without dreams the bolts only deal 20 damage
  • Bolts are hard to aim because they are barely visible.
  • Burns through soul energy at an insane rate.
  • Bolts cannot stagger enemies

As you can see from my assessment the cons outweigh the pros, but I'd rather not just leave it at that and move on. There has to be a way to make this weapon viable despite its many flaws.

  • Has anyone ever tested if this staff is bolstered by fortify effects? I remember a build back on the vault that utilized three staffs and buffed them up with fortify effects like fortify restoration through alchemy.
    • I never tested it if could. I assumed it couldnt be since its effects arent tied to any school of magick or element.

      • They probably can't be boosted. Maybe with weakness to magicka poison...
        • I know the Build, I think. But it only uses the Staff of Magnus, Sanguine Rose and Miraaks Staff. I think that is the one. Less I am thinking of something else.

          • What build is that?

  • Whoa, what armor is that in the picture? BUILD IDEAS GALORE

And also, I think it COULD be useful in rare situations. As long as you kept it charged, it could be useful.

  • Here's a helpful hint. I recommend aiming this thing only under the effects of slow time.

And another hint. Guard barracks and the sleeping quarters within the college are prime places to collect dreams. Dreams can also be collected from sleeping draugr
  • I'm sure it's viable in some ways, but there are just much better staves out there to use.
  • Lol I thought it was funny when I return to this sight after being gone for many months and saw this post. The reason is is because my latest build uses it and he's eas ily able to play with the weapon on expert mode and above. The build is a healer and it's really fun to use and gives it a difficult but fun gameplay. I'll give all the pros and cons I have noticed.
    Pros
Extremely easy to get dreams by going to college of Winterhold
    Shoots at a fast rate
    Cons
    AoE can kill allies
AoE can possibly turn allies on you

Those are the only pros and cons I have noticed so far and hopefully I'll have the build posted shortly
