  • I have already played all (except orcs) and really like all all of their lores. But, if I have to choose just one, then it will be Breton. I know they don't have the most extensive lore, but I like their knight orders and their middle ages aesthetic. Also, the proximity to Hammerfell and the elven influences makes their culture even more richier. 

    My top 5 would be:

    1. Breton
    2. Argonian (the mix of aztec and florida is perfection)
    3. High Elf (I love the "greek" vibes in their aesthetic!!)
    4. Redguard (they have curved swords. CURVED swords!)
    5. Bosmer (the green pact is very interesting)

    My least favorites are the orcs (I just don't like the "shrek" vibes) and the nords (zzzz)

  • its a tie between dunmer, khajiit, and ayleid for me. the dunmer are just so diverse, their politics are extremely interesting, and the tribunal are just so intriguing with vivecs duality, almalexias golden glory, and sotha sils logic and skill with machinery. khajiit are also diverse with the whole moon phases, different forms, and their very alien understanding of the world. as for ayleids, they are mysterious and even though they are extinct, you still feel their presence while traveling cyrodill or valenwood and you cant avoid their contributions. they built the white gold tower, they have hundreds of ruined temples and cities scattered everywhere, and their pantheon is still followed by a lot of altmer in summerset to this day. their influence rivals that of the chimer and the dwemer, and yet they are all dead.

  • Khajiit, Argonian, Dunmer, Altmer, and Orc are my top 5 in that order

  • I think for me it'd be a tie between Dunmer and Argonians. The Dark Elves have always had a special place in my heart, as my first ever character was a Dunmer fire mage in Skyrim. And their stories from a lore standpoint are wonderful. It might be a difficult asf games at time, but I could never say anything bad about Morrowind. That said, Morrowind also made me feel bad for all the Argonians I would see being sold in the markets, and that made me look more into their backstories and such. At some point I'll have to install mods to alter the appearance of both races because the male Dunmer look like prunes, and the Argonians look like the scale pattern is just a suit. But yeah, those would be my two picks. A close second would be Orcs I think. 

  • Whilst I've mostly mained bretons, as warrior-mage type users, mainly for their racial passive magic resist, racial active magicka absorption and an added conjuration spell of summon familiar from the get-go, i've more recently come to love Orcs, lore wise.

    As a race, their backstory is tragic and their lifestyle is hardened by their warrior ways, with mercenary work, mining and smithing as their sources of income. Lore has it that they often raided in the earlier timeframes of their civilization, though in later era's there were notable and civil orsimer of high esteem within the empire.

    Whilst magic is not inherent to thier culture, it is no stranger either. Each orsimer clan's wise women (the mother's of the clan chieftian), possess knowledge in Destruction, Alteration & Sneak, with some minor variances of choice bewteen illusion or restoration and a 4th school of magic. (ref: AtubBolarMurbulSharamph take a look at their, primary skill)

    Given that most orc chieftain wives end up being a forge wife first (ie: Women orc skilled in and maintaining smithing capabilities within the hold), it only serves to indicate that the skills in magic within the clan is a skill that is taught. As such, it is possible for a female orc to combine their skills in smithing and magic to develop a playstye synchronizes with the ferocious and tenacious culture they stem from, not unlike orc shamans in world of warcraft.

    Overall, Skyrim's orc factions deserve more love and recognition and if unfamiliar, is a race that truly needs to be experienced to be enjoyed.

  • It's the Imperials for me. Such a versatile race from both the gameplay and roleplay POV.  You can become a master of any playstyle and they can be found in every corner of Tamriel, making them a perfect default for any build.

  • I like Khajiits and Dunmer.  I like the Dunmer's underdog aesthetic.  if you have a job, a Dark Elf can do it (but nobody will hire them because they're dark elves).  I love the Khajiit's vibe, especially ones like Jzargo.

  • I don't really have hard set rules on which races to play, but that being said, I have a hard time getting into the Beast Races (I don't count Orcs to them though). 

    Come to think of it, in Oblivion it was the Orcs, actually. There just was something really cool about them, their design and their high effectiveness at their assigned roles. Imperials were a close second.

     

    In Skyrim I notice myself migrating to a three way tie between Bretons, Nords and Reguards the most. Bretons just have an incredibly interesting lore to them, plus the concept of hybrid races in fantasy settings fascinates me. Also, their mix of boni in Conjuration, Alchemy, Alteration, Speech, Illusion and Restoration makes them an ideal race for many of my preferred builds.

    Nords on the other hand are also really good bases to build on, as they could just be called "Barbarians - the race", but their stats also lend themselves to scouts, archers, bards etc. What I especially dig about then though is the story and gameplay integration of them being resilient to cold which opens quite a bit of variety in terms of gearing. Also, their viking vibes are just on point.

     

    Lastly, Redguards. In my current EnaiRim setup they're actually my preferred race cause of their ridiculously good gods and even stat boni which make it really easy to develop them however one sees fit which fits their whole independent and free spirited lore aspects really well. Plus their racial abilities with Imperious are just fantastic.

    And as for non-playable races, the Ayleids, Maomer and Dunmer are absolutely fascinating.
