••• Backstory•••
The Tongue, since he could remember, lived on the sea, or in a port city, then the sea again. His father had been a raider, and a bandit before that. The average person wouldn’t call him a good man or father, but he was strong and taught the young tongue to be so. “Life on the sea is for hard people.”, his father would say. If they were in Hammerfel, he would say “Life in Hammerfel is hard, you have to be strong.” He’d say the same if they were in High Rock, or Skyrim, Morrowind…He made his point, you had to be strong if you were going to make it in this world. As much as his father talked about being strong, he talked about the Nord people, and their heritage as berzerkers and reavers. He spoke about men called Tongues, and how they were champions in a war against dragons, and the magics they used to conquer and expel the elves from the land they claimed as home. He spoke about the gods that created men, “the true gods” he would say. Shor was their Chieftain, and the young boy's favorite, and Kyne who lorded over the storms and sea. The Tongue heard her name spoken by his father and the crew of the longship the most. They would ask for her guiding winds to lead the crew safely to whatever corner of Nirn they would visit next. The god least talked about, except by his father was Jhunal and how important he was to the ancestral Nords. He loved his father's stories, and looking back his father knew it would drive the boy forward, even if he wasn’t there…and it did, they do still. Whenever they docked, the boy would always try to find and buy, or steal, a book about magic, and he learned of rune crafting for weaponry and armor. He would always try to cast spells, but the only thing he could conjure up were laughs from the crew. His father would remind him not to give up on Jhunal like these other fools had, and promised one day to find a teacher for him. Now, The Tongue, still a young man, was tall and lean. Built up by the harsh life he’d lived with the other raiders, he’d seen all he could of the northern coast of Tamriel, and he longed to see more of the inland for himself. The rumors and stories he’d heard his whole life didn’t sustain his curiosity any longer, and it was time he sought out, on his own, news and findings of these Nords of old, and of the Gods who guided them. He packed his axe, and bid his father a short goodbye. They gave each other a small grin as his father said “If I don’t run into you again on Tamriel, I’ll be in Atmora or Sovengard. Look for me there.” With that The Tongue began his journey east through Hammerfel, into Cyrodiil, and finally through the mountains into southern Skyrim…..
Race: The Tongue is a Nord, no surprise here. In the backstory he is a young man, so playing a Breton could be considered for the height difference.
Standing Stone: The ultra powerful, and fun Ritual Stone will be used for the build. The Tongue has the same abilities as Hoaga, the Mouth of Mud, who raised the fallen by filling them with mud and animating them.
Attributes: Magic 1 | Health 3 | Stamia 0
•••Quest Path•••
The Companions...
The Tongue is in search for what’s left of Nord ancient tradition, and with a name like “The Companions” he starts there. He joins and gets to know the other members, and feels pride when the circle names him an official member of the band. He takes on jobs, and shows an aptitude for this lifestyle, but after learning of the wolf blood and the out right worship of Hircine amongst some in the circle, it will leave a bitter taste in his mouth. Although he enjoys the other members, especially the members of the circle, he is unable to get past knowing of the Daedric influence that’s corrupted them. Kodlak is searching for a cure, and it seems the brothers abstain from the beast form as well. The Tongue leaves them for now and decides to become a freelance mercenary.
The Main Quest...
He'd met the Jarl of Whiterun before, asking for his aid after Helgen, but slipped away during the conversation with his counsel. The Tongue returns to him after doing some jobs in the hold, and making a small name for himself. The Jarl tasks him with grabbing the Dragonstone, some ancient map. When a dragon attacks the watchtower, he gathers himself for battle. Sovengard awaits... He would redeem himself for the fear he felt when meeting the giant black wyrm that burnt down Helgen. After defeating this dragon, he discovers the ability to shout, some even called him a Dragonborn like old Tiber Septim. His wildest childhood dreams had come true, and aims to master this new power like the tongues of legend. He’ll be summoned to High Hrothgar, but ignore the call and chooses to practice his new abilities on his own as he takes on new contracts. Someone in the shadows has taken an interest in him as he keeps receiving “letters from a friend” leading him to these dragon walls around Skyrim.
Solstheim...
At this point, he’ll feel the urge to sail again, and with how disappointing Skyrim’s people have been so far, he decides to take a ship to Solsteim. After reading a book about a Nord legend named Ahzidal, he will spend what gold he makes learning to enchant runes, to cast spells. He seems adept at some of the earth based spells, showing signs of animating earth. He aims to perfect this craft….at this point, he’ll uncover Ahzidal’s artifacts and walk in his footsteps, learning enchanting and magic from the elves.
The Dark Brotherhood...
After reaching the old frozen city, you hear of a boy that’s looking for a killer. Normally, pity isn’t something The Tongue shows to anyone, even children. Tamriel is a hard place, and you make your way, or you don’t. Still, his curiosity takes over and he meets the kid, who seems intent on seeing his old caretaker dead. Amused by the boys guts, and the promise of a reward, he decides he might just take the job. He has killed for gold before, and he liked this kid, who reminds him of himself a bit…..After joining the brotherhood, he improves his fighting skills, getting tips from the other killers around him. He couldn’t care less about the Night Mother, or this Listener business, he wants to be a warrior worthy of his ancestors, so he’ll continue to try and become the greatest killer on Nirn.
The Second Dragon War...
The Tongue returns to The Companions out of respect for Kodlack and with the aim of finding a cure for him. He reluctantly takes the beast blood, but vows to never take the form. Once you’ve restored the souls of Kodlack, and the wolf brothers, use the Skyforge to craft a weapon devoted to the Gods. A Nord Hero war axe, enchanted with runes of the storm, and blood. The Second Dragon War is the continuation of the main quest, defending Sovengard from the World Eater is the High Point of his life, once he ran in fear of the end, now he charges forward to glory, or death, or both without hesitation.
More Adventures...
The College of Winterhold, to gain further knowledge of the clever craft. Any quest that involve the totem gods, never complete a quest that favors the daedra princes, or the “new” gods of the empire. Talos is the exception, as he respects the man he was, one of the last great Nord heroes. He will also build homes that will serve as places of totem worship, and martial practice. He intends to use his status of high thane and to influence the people of Skyrim, aiming towards a culture closer to the old ways. While he follows his gods in Skyrim, he will drive out those who worship more dangerous things. He will oppose the Daedra at every opportunity. The Dawnguard, and Daedric quest give you chances to earn some glory. The Tongue loves his gods, the Nord legends of old, and intends to explore the land to discover more of the past. He's grown strong since first meeting the World Eater, and when it's time to smash a fallen hero, and shame the god he serves, the Dragonborn quest will provide a very satisfying journey.
