The Runic Boneblade
Name: Runic Bone blade
Weapon Type: One-handed short sword; melee
Ammunition: N/A; enchanted by default, requires filled soul gems to recharge
Description:
The Runic Boneblade is a one-handed melee weapon, a graven bone with etched-in runes of foreign origin, also called 'The Osseous Sword'. It is about as long as an underarm from elbow to wrist, hailing from its origin as a limb on a once alive man or mer. Its other form, the Runic Bonelance, or the 'Osseous Stake', is retrieved from the subject's leg bones. The chiseled-in runes glow when the corresponding creature, called 'The Shaped', is animated.
This weapon appears in a variety of ways, either as a double-edged sword or with a single, slightly curved edge. Its leg counterpart is a finely cut pole with a very pointy end. It is impossibly sharp and may or may not be jagged.
Its osseous nature allows for modifications to the blade. One can carve it in any way one sees fit, though cutting away too much will result in the inherent enchantment being lost as soon as the runes it is embellished with on either side are damaged. When broken, it cannot be repaired. A lost enchantment can only be restored by engraving it anew with the correct runes, if one knows how to do it.
The only way to make it is to conduct a beastly and bloodthirsty ritual on a living person. A ritual that is disclosed in the Black Book of Unlight.
The Enchantment's effects vary depending on the runes the blade is engraved with. There are three possibilities pertaining to the effects. It can either sap life, magicka or stamina in great quantities on connection with the target.
For non-bloodmages, the only way to acquire this weapon is to find a Shaped and dismember it to receive its bones.
The weapon has no hilt but can be modified accordingly. Naturally, this weapon is connected to the Shaped's anatomy and has to be removed by force.
Backstory:
When Imperial investigator Thorus Blackward and Dark Brotherhood assassin Nephethys stumble upon the hidden ossuary beneath the Imperial City, they are met with a hitherto unprecedented foe: the Shaped. Ghastly creatures made from mutilated and more often than not skinned people whose extremities have been carven into melee weapons embellished with foreign runes. During the ensuing battle, Nephethys manages to break off one of the blades from an arm of one of the creatures. While this resulted in the enchantment being lost due to severe damage to the bone itself, the weapon was still sharp and pointy enough to be used as a regular weapon. For Nephethys, a substitute to her dagger she had lost when she haphazardly hurled it towards an even greater adversary.
