The Geists
8-Bit fanart by King Bendix
Name: The Geists
Creature Type: Ethereal Energy; Apparition; Outer Being
Has Soul: Yes
Appearance:
The Geists are hard to describe for mere mortals who behold them for their features are warped and obfuscated up to the point of impossible anatomy, even as far as ghosts and wraiths go.
In general, they appear similar to a floating, hooded man in a black robe (not unlike certain antagonistic creatures in worlds several universes away).
Said robe is tattered and ripped where the legs would be, ending in black oozing drippings that dissipate and dark fumes emanating from underneath them.
The center of its chest is queerly adorned with a 'pulsating emptiness' that radiates some form of gravitational pull or singularity. This strange anomaly is the prime reason as to why it is so hard to properly describe the creature out in the field as it warps its beholder's vision greatly from every possible angle, even distorting the surrounding area. Obfuscated by its cowl is a yawning abyss in place of a face that almost seems like one could gaze into the outer spheres, staring at it for too long.
Its torso possesses two arms with putrid claws, engulfed in blackness.
Abilities:
Passive: Obscure
The Geist passively obscures and warps the vision of any nearby entities, making it impossible to clearly ascertain just what they really are. This frightens most and baffles all.
Passive: Flight
The Geist is capable of flying and hovering in place, up to a height of about ten meters. This nets it unparalleled agility and swiftness.
Passive: Outer Ethereality
Due to its very nature, the Geist cannot be harmed by conventional weaponry and is immune to most worldly magic. Only a true black mage who has sufficiently dabbled in the most forbidden of arts can hold the key to its destruction. Or banishment.
Visions of Madness:
The Geist touches its victim with its talons. The mentally weak will experience mind-shattering vistas of emptiness and despair, provoking them to halt anything they're doing or run away screaming.
Gaze of the Abyss:
The Geist stares at its victim. If the victim stares back long enough, their mind will be pulled into the cosmos, never to return, wandering aimlessly among the stars and the outer spheres.
Reality Collapse:
A sufficiently weakened victim, either by mind or body, can be collapsed and folded by the Geist's sheer magical power, killing them brutally and instantly. To weaken a victim, the Geist may employ either ability or tear at them with its vile claws.
Wail in the Void:
The Geist wails, ensuring even the stoutest of men to flee with faltering confidence and broken pride.
Sinner's Vengeance:
A Dragon shout the Geists inherited from their place of origin. Upon uttering, it will instantly injure those with sufficient enough bad karma. The blacker a person's heart, the more powerful the shout. This makes it incredibly difficult to fight a Geist for one has to have such a black heart as well to even harm them.
Backstory:
The Geists were born from the gradually warped and twisted souls of the Order of the Seven who had struck a pact with their prime deity back in the Ayleid empire to get a plane of existence they would rule over. As time went on, they were corrupted by clever deceit premeditated by their deity. In the end, they got malformed into mindless wraith-like entities bearing an implacable hatred for anything that walked the face of Nirn.
Together with the Blight from the Stars, they have been sent down to Nirn in the mortal realm to establish their god's rule. In a particular instance, a Redguard warrior tried to fight one of them, resulting in her gruesome demise only moments later. Only a true hero could face these perversions of existence and live to tell the tale.
This creature first appears in:
The Necromancer Cycle - Part IV - The Blight from the Stars - Chapter V
