In order to decieve others it is necessary to have more outfits than just a necrolord's armor. This disguise came in handy for tricking the Dragonborn to the location of Adean's Phylactery. It was dangerous, having someone other than himself near it, but the connection to his own soul was necessary for the soul trapping.
