Character Build: The Knight-Commander

Hello everypony, to my second Oblivion build! This build was inspired through my hours of playing Mount and Blade Warbands. With that, I have made a build that allows you to control small armies (or as many as you can on Console), and lead them however you wish. With that, I welcome you to...

An Epic, Knightly theme

Born to a minor noble family in High Rock, the Knight-Commander wished for a life of adventure, rather than attending stuffy parties and political meetings. Taking a modest purse of Septims with him, he soon attained not only knighthood, but a small band of mercenaries under his command. WIth news of the Emperor’s murder, the Knight-Commander and his retinue headed for Cyrodill....

Race: Breton, one of my favorite races to play. They gain a +10 to Intelligence, as well as bonuses to Conjuration and Alchemy. Their traits include a constant Fortify Magicka 50 points, 50% Resist Magic, and Dragon Skin, Shield 50% once a day.

Custom Class-Knight-CDR

Focus: Combat

Attribute Foci: Strength and Personality. Strength will not only boost some of our skills, it will also boost our carry weight, and weapon damage. Personality will bolster disposition of NPCs, making it so aggresive NPCs will attack less often, and will be more receptive of yields. Alongside this, it allows us to haggle for better prices, and persuade easier.

Gameplay

At its core, this character will be a sword and board. Travel will be mainly done on horseback, so get a horse as quickly as possible. If you head to Jauffre and give him the Amulet, you can get, alongside a skill book, The Warp in the West which boosts Block, you’ll gain access to Prior Maborel’s horse. This will be your main mount for most of the game.

You’ll want to head to Chorrol as soon as possible, and speak to Reynald Germaine. Then, pop over to Cheydinhall to meet GIlbert Germaine. After they reunite, and you find the location of their family home, tell them you’ll take them there. The duo will follow you, and are fairly competent in combat. Your summons will make up another unit in your little band. After returning to Weynon Priory after knabbing Martin from Kvatch, Martin and Jauffre will accompany you until you reach Cloud Ruler Temple.

At this point, you should have the Germaine bros, Martin, Jauffre, and any summons. Joining the Mages Guild, and getting to at least the University, can aid in getting some fame. I chose not to continue after getting my staff. This character has some knowledge of the arcane arts, and is an intellectual, but doesn’t wish to become a full fledged wizard. The Guild can also get you more spells.

Your main tactic should be getting your sword and shield ready for battle. Use a summon spell of your choice. You and your followers should then bum rush your enemies. If this is not yet feasible, swap to your bow and arrows, and then fire off a barrage until your enemy either starts cumming towards you, or until they’re an unmoving organic pin cushion with more pointy things in them than Pinhead. Your silver shortsword should only come out if Ghost-Type enemies are in your way.

Though, your main Guild priority should be the Fighter’s Guild. This, and miscellaneous quests, like the Arena, will be your main forms of income.

Skills

One-Handed: Your main form of damage, and in my mind, a sword is not only a weapon of chivalry, but also one that carries sense of honor to it. That, and the Fine Longsword looks sick.

Heavy Armor-Since 75% of our armor is heavy, this will give us some protection, and fits the ¨knight in shining armor¨ type of look.

Block-Our secondary form of defense, this will block attacks that your armor cannot.

Armorer-This handy little skill will allow us to keep our weapons and armor in peak combat performance. Be sure to buy/duplicate repair hammers for ease.

Speechcraft-What noble born knight isn’t eloquent and erudite in their speech? This will allow you to get people’s dispositions up faster.

Conjuration-Primarily, heck, only to be used for summoning to add an extra unit to your small warband.

Marksman-Our only source of ranged damage, not counting your followers and summons, useful for engaging in archery duels.

Roleplay

Never show disrespect to a Count or Countess, they may be your next client.

Try not to get into trouble with the law.

The only section to the above is if you have a little too much to drink and start beating everyone in the inn.

Never steal from citizens, from bandits and necromancers its totally fine, spoils of war and all.

Thanks

  • This is a pretty cool build. I really like the idea of building a small army to march around across Oblivion with. Oblivion has a cool High Fantasy feel that would make this sort of character feel really engaging.
