Armor recoloring eh? That's just retexturing. Well, you'll prolly have to use an outside software. And by "outside software" I mean other than your standard Creation Kit or what have you. I used to faff around with NifSkope.
From what little I know your first step is accessing the mods to begin with. I think they're using the Creation Kit for that. Not sure. Never tried making a mod although I've always wanted to.
Is it true that TES5 Edit can be used in place of Creation Kit?
