All right curse, I support more on the side of Stormcloaks. My reasoning behind this is while wandering solitude and listening to conversation as well as engaging in it, I found the empire has no solid reason to do what they do. For example why outlaw worship of Talos? That is like outlawing Any religion in reality be it catholic,Christianity,paganism,Buddhism etc. No one would agree or be happy about that, so I understand the Stormcloaks. Also, giving control to thalmor would be like giving control of America to Russia or another country based off some instances I’ve read in books about the thalmor throughout Skyrim.
Not only that, but if the way of nords is to fight in mortal combat one on one in order to challenge for kingship, then it should be honored by the loser’s family or council to accept the change. The empire did not do that, so I tend to say they don’t know what honor is. All that ulfric did was use the voice he had at his disposal, that should be considered fair, as he was just using the skills he held. Just because Torygg couldn’t does not make ulfric a killer, as he faced his opponent one on one and face to face like the honorable man he is. In fact my view is that ulfric using the voice honored Torygg more than simple combat would have because that just shows how much of a challenge ulfric thought he was. Considering the voice is considered a holy and god-like gift by many. So I consider stormcloak as a worthy and honorable group to follow, I support them.
You forget that it's not really the Empire outlawing Talos worship. I get where the Stormcloaks are coming from, but if they want their relgeon back, joining up with the Empire gives them a real fighting chance to do so.
The Empire plans to fight back against the Thalmor obviously. The White-Gold Concordat didn't end the tensions between the Thalmor and the Empire. In fact, it really started moutning them again. The War was the big catalyst, but now that it's over, the White-Gold Concordat was really a temperoray solution to benefit each side by giving themselves some time to recollect, as both the Empire and the Thalmor were pretty well and turly decemated by the Great War.
However, I do support Ulfric's claim to the throne. Elesif is useless, and Ulfric should be High King by all right of Nordic law and tradition. If Ulfric wasn't so hell-bent on destroying the Empire in Skyrim, I doubt the Empire would have gotten invovlved in Nordic affairs and backed Elesif. They probably would have left Skyrim business to Skyrim. The reason they fight Ulfric is because his actions are destabelizing the Empire, and thus Tamriel at large, in a time of crisis, not because of his claim to the throne.
True, I suppose if elisif were to try to take the throne he could have challenged her too right? Therebye claiming the throne anyway.
Yes, he certainly could have. And Elesif would certainly have gotten wrecked. But the real reason he challeneged Torygg in the first place waas to prove a political point, not really to become High King. That's why I think claims that Ulfric is power hungry are rediculous, because he didn't even try to take the throne even though he'd earned it until the Moot decided what would happen.
Nah, Ulfric's an extremist, really, and though he planned a great rebellion, he reacted somewhat impulsively and did not consider the effects he'd ave on not only Skyrim if/when he succeeded, but the whole of Tamriel as well would suffer without Skyrim's support.
To be fair, considering Torryg was an Ulfric fanboy, Ulfric could have simply asked Torryg to secede
I actually find your analogy of giving Skyrim to the Thalmor is like giving America to Russia interesting. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the Thalmor. I've actually come to appreciate High Elves a lot more as I have learned about the history of Tiber Septim's conquest and why the High Elves hate Talos so much. I don't believe they should rule Skyrim but I can certainly understand their desire to ban Talos worship and their desire to destroy the empire he created.
Well on some views, the thalmor are like Russia for power. As putin tends to hold much power and claims he has more, the thalmor seem, based on some books to be similar. Claiming their power is unmatched and what not. They also tend to search for ways around say, one person having all the power, kind of in the way putin has made it almost impossible for someone else to be elected in his stead. The thalmor have a tendency to be clever and power driven, as does Putin. America under Russian control would be complete and utter loss of many a persons personal views. Such as religion for one example, as some religions aren’t viewed as a religion at all in Russia. Those people who have a religion like that would find themselves at a loss of what belief really is.
Imperials for sure. I get where the Stormcloaks are coming from, but unless they can handle the Thalmor and the Dominion on their own, which they can’t, their only hope is the Empire. The Thalmor are evil on a whole other level the Stormcloaks just aren’t ready for.
Yeah, the Stormcloaks really don't have a chance. Once the Empire is gone, the Thalmor will come in, crush the Stormcloaks, and take Skyrim for themselves, dooming the Empire. Of course there's the old "whichever side the Dragonborn chooses will win" argument, but that's mostly theory with little real substance.
Yes on that matter, who is to say there aren’t other Dragonborn elsewhere? Like Arngeir states; “you are the only one who has made himself known.” This indicates that for all we know there could plausibly be a Dragonborn of equal or greater strength who is thalmor, just going out on a limb there.
