  • WHAT THE HELL, BETH?! YOU'RE NOT ACTIVISION OR UBISOFT!

  • I don't use very many mods to begin with; making me pay for them will just deter me even more. I didn't watch any videos on the whole Creation Club things nor did I watch the E3 livestream but I'm pretty sure there will still be an option for free mods. The creation club just allows mod authors to work alongside Bethesda to create profession dlc like mods that people have to pay for to use. One benefit of paying for mods is compatibility, I heard that paid mods will all be compatible whereas free mods sometimes aren't compatible. There's information on the creation club on the Bethesda site where they stated all of that. Not sure how this will turn out though. I'm sure people will still complain about mod authors wanting to monetize their mods, but at least there will still be free mods if authors don't decide to monetize their work. Also existing mods on the nexus aren't applicable for the Creation Club so on the bright side, we'll still have all the mods that we currently use.
  • This is more evil that everyone thinks. They are literally draining the modding community of every good/great modder. They will be happy to work for Bethesda and sign whatever contract they have to sign, including one with a non-compete clause.

So the modding community is left with a bunch of average modders trying their best. Bethesda steals the good mods and good modders and tries to sell them to us.

So not only are they trying to sell mods, they are attempting to destroy the actual mod community.

    • You're right, it is a lot worse than I initially thought. I was being very narrow minded and didn't consider everything, now I'm actually worried for the future of modding. It definitely is very tempting to receive an open invitation for Bethesda to essentially work for them, but on a side note, the existing mods on the nexus won't be eligible for the creation club. It's still going to be a big blow to the future, but at least we have all the mods we currently use.
  • This failed the first time and it will fail again because big modding communities like the Nexus will not stand for it

    • CND, you are wrong in this case. The community will not pay, you are correct. But that is not the problem. Bethesda will take the best mods and modders out of the community. This will be a big blow to those who like mods.

  • The best modders in the community were the corner stones of the "forever free' movement that killed bethesdas last attempt at this.
    • Yeah the best modders were against it. Imagine if Bethesda came to you wanting to employ you to make character builds for them, pay you to do so but you cannot make builds for anyone else.

Would you do that? Would you become a professional Builder and get the recognition and acclaim Bethesda bestows upon you?

Those best modders would not just say no to the recognition and money. Some might have those kinds of standards but I would assume most would want to get paid and get their work acknowledged by Bethesda. Plus they get to work along side Bethesda's programmers! That level of experience is tempting by itself without pay.

      • You make a valid point. It's a different approach then the last time they pulled this. I guess only time will tell what these guys do.

As for your scenario: If Bethesda were to pay me to be a pro builder I'd refuse. With money comes a contractual obligation to make what they want rather than what I want, as well as deadlines. That would suck the passion for character building right out of me.
  • What do you guys think about big mod projects such as Enderal and Skyblivion? Would those still be considered mods and eligible for the Creation Club? How would Bethesda handle those type of content?
