The Life of a Bandit

So recently I've had the thought of a bandit character playthrough. Even thought about making a build for it. Trouble is, I'm in somewhat of a hole when thinking about what I would actually be "doing". I ultimately aim to become a Bandit King, but I was hoping for as close to an experience of a being a bandit as possible. That could include bribing that kid on the throne in Falkreath to overlook me, or raiding houses and the like for supplies.

So I've thought to ask: Have any of you ever played a bandit character? If so, what were some of the things you did? And even if you didn't, what are some things you "would" do if you did?

Also, This Particular Mod has helped me a bit in making my decisions. I highly recommend giving it a look.

  • I remember watching a video on Youtube a while back of someone who utilized a mod that let you beat other bandits into submission, and establish different encampments around Skyrim where the bandits would be stationed for future raids. It was really a mongolian khan-like character, where they trampled through Dragons Bridge on Horseback planting arrows into everyone foolish enough to not run indoors. The character spared no villages, no fortresses, and no cities apart from Whiterun, which they used as a sort of trading hub for their ill-gotten gains. That always struck me as a really fun bandit-esque playthrough to try.

    • Holy shit that sounds badass!

    • You wouldn't happen to remember the name of that mod would you? even a little?

      • I'm not sure if it's still around anywhere, but it was just called "Play as a Bandit"

  • 1) Cool idea

    2) Cool mod

    3) I have never done a bandit playthrough myself, but one thing I'd recommend for starters would be to use the "Outlaw in the Wilds" start option from Alternate Start. This will put you in a random bandit camp/stronghold and make all occupants friendly to you.

Another mod I would recommend is Tundra Defense. This is a mod that allows you to construct your own outpost in the wilds for you to build up, defend, and garrison. This could be an awesome goal for a bandit: to establish his own town/outpost that is a haven for outlaws, and over which he rules. The ultimate bandit refuge.

    Those would be my suggestions.

Tundra Defense - Construct Your Own Outpost
From the maker of Wasteland Defense! Construct your outpost anywhere throughout the lands of Skyrim. Build a peaceful settlement or a deadly fort. Ca…
  • I did, living in non respawning forts, and raiding villages on occasion

  • In discord chat I mentioned Immersive speechcraft which gives you the option to initiate a robbery whenever you talk to NPCs with your weapons drawn.

Of course you also have Alternate Start to start off as an outlaw in a random hold.

Id like to recommend a mod I quite enjoyed on my Berne Clansman build called Sokco’s Guild Starter. Basically let’s you set up headquarters anywhere you like and Reddit NPCs to join you. You can name your group and even send your recruited NPCs out on various missions tailored to what kind of group you’re running.

  •  I did once play as a bandit character, though it was quite some time ago so my memories may be a bit fuzzy. Firstly, the bandit's story (Why he's a bandit, what he wants to do in the future) is WAY more important than anything else. Why? Because without a good story and direction of the future they just become  a dull warrior build with no real purpose.

Secondly, you NEED an HQ, not a house, but a place where you can buy and sell stuff. You need at least one Hold where you don't have a bounty; I'd recommned Riften (Because of the thieves guild) but the Rift is one of the largest holds in Skyrim, so another hold would be Falkreath. Here, the Jarls a suck up brat who's clearly corrupt and the hold doesn't take up that much space.

Thirdly, Bounties. It wouldn't be a bandit playthrough if you didn't have a bounty. The way I got my bounties was I'd just enter holds as usual, but if I found a character annoying or rude (cough cough...Nazeem and Degaine...cough cough) I'd kill them and that went on and on, until I had a bounty in all but one hold.

After doing all this. I became legitimately terrified of leaving my chosen holds borders (Falkreath) Because if I ran out of potions I'm dead, if I got attack by a OP bounty hunter I'm dead, if I try and run away to safety, the guards see me and, you guest it, I'm dead. Siding with Madanoch Forsworn conspiracy gave me a good home home to come to. I also should state that before getting a bounty in Whitetun, I became a werewolf. Gave me that extra zing ya get me?

Anyway, I became a devestating bandit. Called Khaj'er the Crusher (I used a Warhammer) I became pretty good at breaking into a house, then RAPIDLY searching for potions and gold, before running out of there. Kill other bandits for gold, even going into ancient nordic tombs and....looting the dead. But then...I met Meeko...sweat thing. After being alone for months (like 4 days irl) I finally, finally found a companion. I took Meeko to Falkreath and there I would play Fetch with him by throwing a piece of Cooked Meat; oh we played for days. I'd rent a room in the Inn, I started to talk to people in Falkreath...help them...something I haven't done before. I felt...warm.

After speeding hours playing with Meeko, fighting with Meeko. I, or my character, decied enough was enoug. It's time I clear my name...one hold, one septim at a time. I cannot tell you how fun that was. It was the first, and only time, I felt like a character could exists...granted he was a khajiit.

Then. Meeko... sweat thing. He died. And, I continued to clear my name– alone, again. There was this point in my play through where I wanted to clear my name in Haafingar, Meeko had just recently died, and I, no potions, literally a quarter of my health left, Frostbite spider venom in my veins, with Rockjoint and Witbane found Ironback Hidedout. Thank god I had quick reflexs, the steed stone, and the Longhammer, cause without them thoughs bandits would've easily killed me. Till this day, I can't remember how I kill them all. Just how! Anyway, after disposing of the bandits. I just crouched near the fire (I don't have mods, and I play on console, I just did for role play reasons), looked around, and there, on a the only table in his godforsaken hideout was... Cooked Meat. It reminded me of Meeko...sweat thing. I went on to clear my name, rejoin and become the harbinger of the companions, cleared my blood of that of the wolf, and finally, finally, I rested.

    I hope I made Meeko proud...sweat thing.

    • *sniff* That was beautiful. I'll definitely keep this in mind!

You misspelled "sweet" multiple times tho...
